Community and Curation
Saturday, April 4, 2–3:30 pm
303 Bond Street, Brooklyn

Please join us for a special guided gallery tour of The House Transformed with curator Mónica Ponce de Leon and Rome Prize-winner Akima Brackeen. Akima’s practice is focused on justice in the built environment, and housing is a key part of what makes cities and communities livable and vibrant. Akima and Mónica will introduce visitors to the nearly 50 models through this lens, specifically geared toward our local Brooklyn community.

On view at Van Alen Institute through May 22, The House Transformed presents new ideas for domestic architecture. Featuring participants from local and global contexts, the exhibition rejects conventional notions of nuclear family and a “one-size-fits-all” approach to the house. These models and drawings explore alternative concepts for collective living, multigenerational households, and caregiving.

Coffee and tea will be served.
