This month, we’re reading Sam Miller’s science fiction thriller, Blackfish City. In a world scarred by environmental and geopolitical crisis, a new city has emerged in the Arctic — an astounding human achievement that is nonetheless threatened by rampant crime, corruption, and disease. One day, a mysterious woman, accompanied by an orca and a polar bear, arrives at the settlement, setting off a series of events that will either save the city or tear it further apart.
Join us as we use Miller’s intriguing vision of the future and motley cast of characters to explore the forces that bind societies together, allow cities to prosper, and give hope that better urban futures are possible, despite the direst of circumstances.
The discussion was co-moderated by Sam J. Miller and Rebecca Rendsburg.
Open to new and returning participants.
A light dinner and refreshments will be provided.
