The Public School (for Architecture) New York: Session Three
by New York Prize Fellows common room and Telic Arts Exchange

Rounding out the success of October and November sessions, PS(fA)NY begins its final session under the auspices of the New York Prize with the class Free Schools as Artistic Practice. Taught by curator and critic Adam Kleinman, the class positions itself as a critical self-reflection into the burgeoning phenomena of "free schools"—including the Public School, the New Museum’s Night School, The Bruce High Quality Foundation University, the Class Room at the New York Art Book Fair, and The University of Trash at the Sculpture Center. Often lauded by organizers and commentators as "alternative" educational models, how do these programs propose to remap relationships between art, design, and education, and what kinds of transformations within those disciplines are effected—if any?

For both PS(fA)NY newcomers and veterans, the class provides the opportunity to locate the project within a growing field of kindred programs and initiatives. As the class description playfully exhorts: "What better place and time than now to question what we are all doing here!" Come join the discussion tonight at 6:00pm at Brownie's Cafe.

Session Three of The Public School (for Architecture) New York continues with the following classes:
