New York Prize Fellows Open House
During the month of July, VAI hosted a weekly open studio to feature our summer New York Prize Fellows, Annie Han and Daniel Mihalyo (www.leadpencilstudio.com). Annie and Dan are scanning dozens of locations within the city using LIDAR. LIDAR (Laser Infrared Detection and Ranging) uses a laser to make millions of highly accurate point measurements that are tracked and ordered to form a perfect digital 3-dimensional model of the visible world.
The final open studio, held on July 28th, included an interactive demonstration in which guests posed for LIDAR scanned images--providing an example of the technology behind the project. A remarkable level of detail was captured by the machine in a matter of minutes.
