John Stuart

John Stuart is an architect and historian exploring issues of design, technology and public space. His drawings, videos and architectural projects have been exhibited at Art Basel Miami, the Grammercy Art Fair, and the Miami Short Film Festival. Stuart's publications include: The Gray Cloth, Paul Scheerbart's Novel on Glass Architecture (The MIT Press, 2001); and with co-author, Jewel Stern, Ely Jacques Kahn, Architect: Beaux-Arts to Modernism in New York (W.W. Norton, 2006), which was awarded the 2006 New York Book Award for Architectural History. His book, The New Deal in South Florida: Design, Policy, and Community Building, 1933–1940, edited with political scientist John Stack, will appear in 2008. Stuart has received support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Science Foundation, The Wolfsonian-FIU, and the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts. He teaches in the School of Architecture at Florida International University.
